Fuel Economy

High Cost of Petroleum

Energy is the life-blood of our nation. It is the mainstay of our standard of living, economy, and national security. Clean forms of energy are needed to support sustainable global economic growth while mitigating impacts on air quality and the potential effects of greenhouse gas emissions. Our growing dependence on foreign sources of energy threatens our national security.

As a nation, we must work to reduce our dependence on foreign sources of energy in a manner that is affordable and preserves environmental quality.

MPG Magazine Will help guide you through the maze of Automotive technology. On your site we will help explain what works and what doesn't work so that you can make an informed decision.

Fuel economy has become a hot topic as gas prices continue to soar.  Sales of hybrid vehicles continue to increase daily while the US auto makers struggle to keep up.

As the price of fuel goes up, so do the sales of "Fuel Saving Devices" that flood Ebay. Each year the EPA tests the claims of many an inventor only to report a small percentage really do any good at all.

Gas Saving Tips

·  If you can Choose a cleaner vehicle
Using the information on this site, you can choose the cleanest vehicle available that meets your needs. The choice you make will affect the quality of the air we breathe, because passenger cars and trucks are major contributors to air pollution. Even with continued improvements in air quality, almost 100 million people still live in areas with unhealthy levels of air pollution, much of which can be attributed to the increased use of passenger cars and trucks. Children and the elderly are the most at risk from air pollution.
·  Buy a more fuel efficient vehicle
The better gas mileage a vehicle gets, the less fuel it burns. Less fuel burned means fewer natural resources are used and less pollution is created from the extraction and processing of the fuel.  Less fuel burned also means that less carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, is added to the atmosphere.  To help you select a more fuel efficient vehicle, EPA and the Department of Energy publish an annual Fuel Economy Guide, available at www.fueleconomy.gov .
·  Drive less
Public transportation and car pooling are a great way to save money.  Plan your trips; nothing is worse then burning a gallon of gas for a pack of cigarettes. Vehicles make up almost one-third of smog-forming emissions nationally, and because we are driving more and more miles every year (up 127% since 1970), vehicles continue to be a significant contributor to air pollution.
·  Keep your vehicle is shape
Your vehicle is designed to perform best when maintained according to the instructions found in the owner's manual. A poorly tuned vehicle can pollute significantly more than one that's well-maintained. Believe it or not, your tire pressure plays a big part in mileage.
